About Us

We’re Anneka Rains and AJ Hammack, the owners and operators of Duck Duck Moose Pet Care! Our two beloved kitties, Duckie and Moose, and our compassion for animals inspired us to create a pet sitting business that emphasized attention to detail, clear communication, and reliability. Over the years, we’ve built a reputation for offering peace of mind to even the most careful of pet owners!

We are proud to have a team of skilled and qualified folks (vetted employees, not contractors!) to help us deliver the professional and compassionate care our clients have come to expect and rely on. We can’t thank this community enough for supporting our growing small business!

We welcome dogs and cats of all breeds, sizes, and personalities—including those with special needs like anxiety or dog-reactivity. We look forward to meeting your pets and providing them with the care they deserve!

Meet Your Professionals

  • ANNEKA RAINS | Owner & Staff

Anneka's passion for animals developed at a young age when she adopted her first two kitties from a local shelter in her hometown of Austin, Texas. Since 2017, she has been dedicated to the professional pet care industry, working with a wide variety of dogs and cats.

For four years prior to founding Duck Duck Moose Pet Care, Anneka specialized in walking dog-reactive and anxious pups for another local company. During this time, she gained valuable experience in confidently handling and caring for pets with such personalities.

In 2022, Anneka took the next step in her career by opening her own pet sitting business, where she continues to apply her expertise to support reactive pups and care for animals of all kinds!

  • AJ HAMMACK | Owner & Staff

AJ has been surrounded by dogs his entire life. As a proud Washingtonian, he's no stranger to the Seattle rain and enjoys spending time outdoors with his pup and kitty friends! Now in West Seattle, he shares his home with two cats (the namesakes of the company) and three recent rescue pups alongside his partner Anneka.

AJ joined the Duck Duck Moose Pet Care team in 2023, bringing with him experience and confidence in working with reactive and anxious pets. Known for his patience, AJ loves winning the trust of even the most ornery of animals!

  • AUNG H. | Staff

Aung's love for animals started early. He had his first pet at seven years old, and his desire to be around animals grew with every dog he encountered. He also spent a lot of time with his cousin's four dogs in Myanmar, which further deepened his connection to them.

During his university years, Aung had a Labrador who became his close companion for seven years. Through caring for her, he truly experienced the deep bond and joy that come with being responsible for an animal’s well-being.

After moving to Seattle in 2024, Aung reconnected with his passion for working with pets. He’s cared for his brother’s two cats and began volunteering as a dog walker at Burien CARES in early 2025, gaining experience with pets of all sizes and temperaments.

Originally from Myanmar, Aung is now pursuing a long-term career in pet care. His calm presence, gentle approach, and genuine affection for animals shine through in every walk, cuddle, and visit.

  • JESSICA T. | Staff

Jessica is a life long animal lover and wildlife enthusiast. With over 10 years in pet care and almost as long in wildlife rescue and education, there are very few animals she can’t handle! Although today she “only” has three cats, four snakes and two geckos, Jessica has extensive experience in caring for birds, reptiles, and other exotic animals as well as the much more common cats and dogs.

Prior to her recent move to Washington, Jessica ran a non-profit wildlife rescue and education service as well as a small hobby farm raising chickens and sheep. On a given day, she may have had up to 80 animals in care at one time! By comparison, having only nine animals to care for now is a huge relief!

While these certainly aren’t your typical pets, Jessica’s favorite animals to work with are birds of prey and she has training in handling dangerous reptiles. Basically, “I have worked with pretty much all animals you can legally keep as well as a lot that you can’t!”

  • Matt C. | Staff

Matt's love of animals came at an early age. Growing up on a farm in rural Oregon, he developed a passion for outdoor life and animals of all kinds. As a child, Matt and his family raised a variety of animals, including horses, cows, goats, chickens, ducks, cats, and dogs. Life on a farm not only instilled in him a deep love of all animals, but also the ability to listen for their particular animal forms of communication. This skill has served him well as he's navigated a wonderful life filled with animals.

In his adult years, Matt moved to California, where he worked and lived in an intentional community educational farm. They hosted kids from nearby cities to educate them on the sourcing of food, introduce them to livestock, and invite them to help in and harvest from the gardens. Throughout his adult life, Matt has had and loved a large handful of four-legged and feathered friends, including cats, dogs, chickens, horses, ducks and turtles.

Shortly after the pandemic, Matt and his wife moved to Seattle. They have two cats (Sailor and Buster) and a feisty terrier named Henry. Their fur babies are a source of endless love, joy, and near constant laughter. Matt understands the importance of animals in our lives and considers it a pleasure and a privilege to care for them.

  • Jay F. | Staff

Jay always welcomes direction, feedback, and special requests from pet parents, as no one knows their animals better than they do. His goal is simple: to make every pet feel safe, comfortable, loved, and right at home.

Jay currently lives in Seattle with his sweet, silly, and endlessly entertaining cat, Hattie.
